Former Vietnamese Ambassador appointed Head of International Relations & Public Relations Department, Duy Tan University

Dr. Phan Chi Thanh - Former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Vietnam to Thailand has accepted the invitation to become the Dean of the Faculty of International and Public Affairs (FIPA) at the School of Languages and Social Humanities (LHSS), DTU.

This is an important milestone that opens a new and promising development step for DTU to continue to promote international cooperation, especially contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research, meeting the needs of society and the labor market in these two key industries.

New Leadership, New Vision

Graduating with a Master's degree from Columbia University and defending his PhD thesis at the Diplomatic Academy of Vietnam, Dr. Phan Chi Thanh is an expert in the field of International Relations. Prior to working at DTU, he made many important contributions in the field of foreign affairs of the country. In particular, he served as Vietnam's Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Thailand for the 2020-2024 term.

With extensive experience as an advisor to the World Bank (WB) in Washington D.C. and important contributions to Vietnam's foreign policy, Dr. Phan Chi Thanh has participated in Vietnam's efforts to negotiate accession to the WTO, serving as Director of International Relations at the Government Office,  and was the Secretary General of the National Council for Sustainable Development before accepting a diplomatic mission in Thailand.

Impressed by the innovative and progressive learning spirit of DTU students and the university's development strategy, Dr. Phan Chi Thanh accepted the invitation to become the Dean of the School of International Relations and Public Relations. From practical experience through many working positions, Dr. Phan Chi Thanh is unwavering in his enthusiasm to create an international model in training and research at the Faculty of International Relations and Public Relations (FIPA), DTU, similar to the training and research model that is being applied by the world's leading universities.

Dr. Phan Chi Thanh shared: "As a person who has been directly involved in Vietnam's diplomatic activities and international relations, I understand the important role of the young generation in shaping the country's position in the international arena. Therefore, the vision of the Faculty is to become the leading center of training, research and practical academic connection in Vietnam and the region, contributing to improving the capacity of foreign affairs, international trade, communication, and human resource development for the country's global integration process".

In close collaboration with DTU's Center for Global Studies (CGS), the Faculty is conducting important discussions and research collaborations with the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences and several major universities around the world. Under the leadership of Dr. Phan Chi Thanh, the Faculty of International Relations & Public Relations (FIPA) will contribute to the launch of collaborative research initiatives on the following models:

  • Free Trade Zone (FTZ), and
  • International Financial Center

are forming in Vietnam, joining hands to support the development of the country's economy and Da Nang.

Differentiated Training Program expands employment opportunities for students

DTU's Faculty of International Relations & Public Relations currently offers the following disciplines:

  • International Relations (Major code: 7310206),
  • Public Relations (Industry code: 7320108), and
  • Vietnamese Studies (Code: 7310630)

and the training program for master's and doctoral degrees in International Relations (the first and only in the Central region).

Each discipline has training programs that are scientifically designed and methodical, aiming to equip students with in-depth knowledge and practical skills in the fields of international relations, communication, foreign affairs and the public. Undertaking the training is a team of lecturers with high academic qualifications and degrees, many of whom have trained and done research at prestigious educational institutions in the US, China, Belgium, etc.

DTU Public Relations students  can study with a synchronous and professional system of facilities, specifically:

  • The DTU Graphics Center and the Silver Swallows Studio (SSS) at the school always provide excellent support for training in filming, photography, post-processing, production, etc.
  • DTU students can participate in practical work at Marketing & Communication units, Go Stork magazine, DTU Science & Technology magazine, etc.

State-of-the-art facilities support DTU Public Relations and Communication students

  International Relations and Vietnamese students studying DTU have access to training programs in many fields: politics - diplomacy, economics, society and culture of other countries, with foreign languages accounting for a large volume. DTU International Relations graduates are currently working in many positions such as: teaching and researching at domestic and international research institutes and higher education institutions, specialists from NGOs, police, flight attendants, etc.  reception at the hotel and restaurant... Typically, there are student Vo Mau Thuong, currently a PhD student at Eötvös University Loránd Tudományegyetem (Hungary) and many other alumni who have obtained doctoral degrees and are currently working in many places at home and abroad.

Students of the Faculty from the first year can also participate in research projects or diverse career exchange and internship programs such as with Thammasat University (Thailand), University of Palermo (Italy)...

Dr. Nguyen Thu My - Chairman of the Faculty Science Council shared: "We are committed to training high-quality human resources, meeting the external needs and economic development of Da Nang and the region in the coming years, especially when the city deploys the Free Trade Zone and the International Financial Center".

Students make their mark with outstanding achievements

The Faculty of International Relations & Public Relations, DTU is home to many outstanding students, including:

  • DTU Valedictorian 2023: H' Mi Sa Kbuôr scored 28.25/30 while studying Public Relations,
  • Student Nguyen Pham Thanh Tuyen, who is studying International Relations, received a scholarship from the Hyundai Motor Chung Mong - Koo Foundation (CMK) to study at Seoul National University in Korea.
  • Student Nguyen Tan Tri - Third Prize in Da Nang Cluster in the National English Exam Star Awards for the academic year 2024-2025,
  • Student Le Nhu Doan Ha, a student of DTU Public Relations, won the runner-up title at the Quang Nam Provincial Host Contest 2024...

The awards and scholarships won by the Faculty's students not only affirm their outstanding capacity but also prove the quality of the University's training. This will be a solid foundation for candidates in the 2025 Admissions season to trust and choose FIPA and DTU.
